Senior Project 2022

Mason Harmon

Hey folks! My name is Mason; I was born and raised in Central Arkansas. On any given day, I am most likely either playing with my dog or starting some sort of creative project I probably won’t finish. I go through phases of enjoying different mediums, recently it’s been collage. I also have an obsession with going to the quartz mines down in Mt. Ida, and making different things out of the crystals I find.

I began my college career at Hendrix College in Conway. My love for art and creative thinking led me to pursue graphic design at the U of A in 2018. Transferring set back my graduation by a couple of years, but I think it was the best decision I’ve ever made for myself.

The concept app I am creating is called Ucare. It contains a health tracker, polls, surveys, and forum pages for people to share personal experiences regarding their sexual and reproductive health. Over time, the information gathered about medication, birth control, and diagnoses would provide users with insights that their provider may have not taken the time to explain or look into. For example, if enough information is collected about the effectiveness of different treatment regimens for a something like PCOS, the app would be able to make users aware of what has worked best for others. Everyone’s body is different, and everyone has different needs, but the field of gynecology is vastly unstudied compared to other fields of medicine. Gathering this data and disseminating it to patients and providers alike will hopefully grow our collective understanding of gynecological health.

How might an online platform allow young people to feel more comfortable and confident when going to a gynecologist?
