Senior Project 2022

Grace Kirby

Hi! My name is Grace and I grew up near Dallas, Texas. My fav things in life are art and design, thrifting, watching movies, experiencing new coffee shops, and listening to true crime podcasts. In high school, I took a bunch of art classes including AP Drawing and AP 2D Design. These classes inspired me to pursue a career in the arts. I am so grateful for my discovery of Graphic Design, as well as the program here at the UofA. The GDES program has given me so much knowledge, so many skills, and such amazing relationships.

My project is inspired by the lack of representation within the beauty industry. The beauty industry is known to lack inclusion of diverse identities, most commonly referencing heteronormative, cis-gendered, white women. This advertised profile of beauty promotes unrealistic and detrimental standards. I believe that makeup and cosmetics should be available to all genders and that all identities should be embraced and appreciated.

Your Title Goes Here

How might we promote queer representation in the beauty industry through the use of design and advertising that eliminates stereotypes and encourages self-expression?
